Char Dham Yatra 2026: a complete planning guide
Opening dates, registration, the best time to go, and how to choose between road and helicopter.
The Char Dham Yatra — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath — is one of the most important pilgrimages in Hinduism.
When to go
The temples usually open around Akshaya Tritiya (late April / May) and close around Diwali. May–June and September–October have the most comfortable weather. Avoid peak monsoon (July–August) when landslides are common.
Registration
Every pilgrim must register with the Uttarakhand government before the yatra. We handle registration for all our guests.
Road or helicopter?
The road yatra takes 10–12 days from Haridwar. If you have limited time or mobility, helicopter options for Kedarnath — or the full Char Dham by helicopter — cut this down dramatically.
What to pack
Warm layers, rain jacket, comfortable trekking shoes, basic medicines and a valid photo ID.
